At its meeting on 25 February 2026, Chelmsford City Council approved a 2.97% increase in its average Band D council tax, taking the City Council's own element to £234.85.
Added to the county, police and fire precepts, the total Band D bill in the unparished city centre is £2,256.84 for 2026/27, with parished areas paying more.
Reform UK's position is straightforward: savings should be found in back-office and consultancy spending before residents are asked for more.
